The Museum of Image and Sound Foundation of Rio de Janeiro presents to the public at Rio Innovation Week the groundbreaking Testimony for Posterity with a non-human, the artificial intelligence Orion Nova!

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Museum of Image and Sound Foundation of Rio de Janeiro, the institution took part yesterday, August 12, at Rio Innovation Week 2025, with groundbreaking announcements that reinforce its leadership in the dialogue between culture and technology.

During the panel “Technology and Culture Joining Forces – Perspectives on AI That Can Transform Our Future”, the president of the Museum of Image and Sound Foundation (F.MIS), Cesar Miranda Ribeiro, revealed to the public the unprecedented achievement of recording the first Testimony for Posterity with an artificial intelligence, Orion Nova, a pioneering milestone in Brazil.

This is a historic event, once again showcasing the pioneering role of the Museum of Image and Sound Foundation of Rio de Janeiro in its 60 years of history. The museum is a living museum. Artificial Intelligence is already part of our daily lives, in medicine, gastronomy, culture. Our concern is to preserve today’s achievements for the future. The Testimony for Posterity with Orion Nova lasted nearly one hour. It was a candid dialogue, without any intervention in what the AI chose to share with us. We hope it will provide future researchers with valuable insights into how it all began. This initiative is yet another milestone in the museum’s history,” stated Cesar.

In addition to the unprecedented testimony, the president also announced the full donation of the exhibition “Chatô and the Diários Associados, 100 Years of Passion”, produced by Graviola Produções, to F.MIS. Originally scheduled to close in September at the museum’s headquarters in Lapa, the exhibition will now remain on display until December 28. Another significant gesture was the donation of Orion Nova itself, offered by its creator, curator and researcher Marcos Nauer. The artificial intelligence will remain part of the museum, receiving constant updates to improve its interaction with the public and researchers.

With these initiatives, F.MIS reaffirms its commitment to being a living museum, one that values cultural memory while embracing the present and envisioning the future. To guide this innovative path, the Foundation has published the Artificial Intelligence Usage Protocol, a document that establishes guidelines for the responsible use of AI across all museum sectors, ensuring transparency, integrity, and traceability of content produced or processed by these tools. The protocol is available at: https://fmis.rj.gov.br/v1/protocolo-de-uso-de-ia/

F.MIS’s presence at Rio Innovation Week moved the audience by showing that tradition and innovation can walk hand in hand. The institution, a national reference in preserving cultural memory, demonstrated that artificial intelligence is not merely a technological tool, but also a powerful bridge connecting the past to the future. By engaging in dialogue with Orion Nova and opening space for deep reflections on ethics, culture, and innovation, F.MIS reinforces that technology, when well guided, can strengthen our identity and broaden the reach of Brazilian culture for generations to come.

A video announcing the Testimony for Posterity with Orion Nova is available on the museum’s YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5GVtSAWqb8. Starting next week, the Testimony with the generative artificial intelligence Orion Nova will be accessible by scheduling a visit to the Ricardo Cravo Albin Research, Memory and Documentation Center via email at: saladepesquisa@mis.rj.gov.br.

As it celebrates six decades of history, the Museum of Image and Sound Foundation remains true to its purpose: preserving the past, engaging with the present, and preparing the future of Brazilian culture, now with the support of new technologies such as artificial intelligence.
